A beautiful valley with a lake, a river, and forest service roads in abundance.

Ghost towns in the area are mostly locations on the map. Little real evidence of history are seen at Spruce Ghost Town, Pratt’s Mill Ghost Town Este Ghost Town and Apex Ghost Town.

Red Gate Rock and White Gate Rock are two locations along the railroad used for distance by the engineer.

Water features include Little Elk Creek, Dalton Lake, Reausaw Lake, and the Civilian Conservation Crop Dam.

For a short but interesting hike, try the Little Elk Creek trail.

The famous Forest Service “Case One” is the earliest attempt at federally managed forest utilization. Case One is the site of the F-3 Civilian Conservation camp.
