Custer Peak, named for General George A. Custer, is a prominent mountain in the Black Hills located south of the towns of Deadwood and Lead.

The Custer Peak Fire Tower is an active tower, with Forest Service personnel posted there every day. Originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps volunteers are rehabilitating the 1941 tower.

Most of the trails in this area are old logging roads.

Besides Custer Peak other sites to look for in the area include the BH National Forest Experimental Forest, the Curran Cabin and the CCC dam.
